CHARACTER INFO
Name: Scott Lang
Journal: Here
Age: Early 50s
Appearance: Lean, muscular.
Canon: Ant-Man
Canon Point: The end of the first Ant-Man movie
History: Scott Edward Harris Lang is a former convicted thief who was struggling to pay child support to his estranged wife for visitation rights to his daughter, Cassie Lang. With the promise of money, he was convinced by Hank Pym to take on the mantle of Ant-Man: a superhero with an advanced suit designed to shrink its wearer to a tiny size while increasing one's toughness, agility, and physical strength. Trained under both Hank and his daughter Hope van Dyne, Lang was to help foil Hank's former protégé, Darren Cross, who was intending to sell his Yellowjacket Suit design and his copy of the Pym Particles formula to HYDRA and the Ten Rings. To defeat Cross, Lang had to shrink small enough to enter Cross' Yellowjacket suit and destroy it, sending Lang to the Quantum Realm. Lang was able to escape. Lang's heroism helped restore his relationship with Cassie.
Abilities:
WITH THE ANT-MAN SUIT
Size Manipulation: Using technology developed by Hank Pym, Lang is able to reduce himself to approximately the size of an ant, though he can also grow his body to gigantic sizes; doing the latter, however, puts an enormous strain on him. He still maintains his regular-sized strength and resilience when shrinking. While in reduced scale, this translates to granting him inhuman effort and exertion capabilities. Also, obtaining momentum and kinetic energy in small scale and exerting it immediately while returning to or right after returning to normal size can result in a feat of superhuman effort and exertion, therefore momentarily give Lang enhanced strength while in regular size, enough to send a man flying while attacking and enlarging himself at the same time. The process of altering size compresses force and energy, manifesting as brief shockwaves of vibration around the target that charge the target with momentum. Lang cannot maintain himself giant for extended periods time, as it causes some heavy stress on his body and if done long enough he can even faint.
Superhuman Strength: While wearing the Ant-Man Suit in its miniature form, Lang possesses superhuman strength due to his increased density, effort, and exertion, enabling him to take out multiple opponents of normal human size while shrunken and using the physical force and momentum attained from changing size to simulate superhuman strength directly after returning to normal size. This strength also extends to the legs, allowing him to jump, spring, and leap across with great force so he can move through the air like a bullet to strike and impact opponents, incapacitating them instantly or moving them halfway across a room in a single bound. However, exerting too much force can accidentally kill an opponent due to the force of attacks being comparable to that of a bullet. The process of altering size compresses force and energy, manifesting as brief shockwaves of vibration around Lang that charge the target with enough momentum that can briefly enhance the target's strength while enlarging or immediately after enlarging.
Superhuman Durability: While wearing the Ant-Man Suit in its miniature form, Lang's increased density also affords him superhuman durability, retaining the resilience of a human of regular size. This notably allows him to withstand impacts that would easily stun or even kill a normal human, enough to him to fall from great heights and crash onto a surface with the force of a bullet while remaining unharmed. When he has increased his size into that of a giant, he naturally becomes far tougher and more durable than normal. This is due to his increased density and muscle mass. However, this enormous amount of durability comes at the cost of his speed and balance, making his movements somewhat clumsy as a result.
Insect Manipulation: Lang, through the use of the EMP Communication Device within the suit's helmet and the earpieces given to him by Hank Pym, can affect the pheromones of insect-sized organisms and stimulate their olfactory nerve centers, allowing him a rudimentary form of control over ants. He can direct their actions and behavior at will to allow them to work together, such as by forming themselves into bridges or walkways, assuming the form of mounts, or attacking a target, usually in swarms as a distraction for the user.
GENERAL ABILITIES
Gifted Intellect: Lang possesses above average intelligence as he was able to figure out how to use the highly complex Ant-Man Suit and gain a Masters Degree in electrical engineering. He also has quite a good understanding of chemistry, which allowed him to destroy Hank Pym's safe.
Expert Thief: Lang is highly trained in theft, specializing in breaking into homes and other establishments.
Expert Tactician: As a highly trained tactician, Lang has a keen mind for formulating elaborate plans and schemes and is especially noted for being able to modify those plans to adapt to unforeseen circumstances at short notice - sometimes within seconds.
Expert Acrobat: Lang is highly trained in acrobatics, parkour, and free running maneuvers, leaping across steep divides and climbing difficult structures. He does not just perform these stunts in his shrunken state but also in such instances as breaking into buildings.
Expert Martial Artist: Initially, Lang had poor fighting skills as he avoided confrontations during his heists. Hope van Dyne trained him, and he slowly became a highly trained fighter.

Questionnaire:
1. What do they care deeply about? What kind of loyalties, commitments, moral codes, life philosophies, passions, callings or spirituality and faith do they have? How do these tend to be expressed?
Scott would say that his first and foremost role is being a good father to his daughter, Cassie. She is what motivates all of his actions and decision in his life. He also shows a form of loyalty towards the mother of his child, despite there having been a split along the way.
He is most closely aligned somewhere between neutral and chaotic good having gone to prison after discovering that Vistacorp, a technology company specializing in security, was overcharging its customers. At first, he thought it was simply a coding error and changed it. He then realized the company was intentionally doing this to their customers for financial gain when Geoff Zorick ordered Lang to revert his many corrections before firing him. Angered by VistaCorp's larceny, Lang broke into Headquarters to hack their systems and pay back the money to Vistacorp's customers. He then broke into Geoff Zorick's Mansion and stole a few items before he got carried away and drove Zorick's car into the mansion's pool. He doesn't want to dismantle society entirely, but he will go to somewhat extreme measures to try to right things he sees as unjust.
He is an extremely loyal person to his friends and family, and he is someone who makes friends very easily because of his easy-going, good-humored nature.
2. What kind of person could they become in the future? What are some developmental paths that they could take: best, worst, most likely?
Generally speaking, Scott's kind of got his life in order in so much that he's not really seeking some major moral redemption or anything like what many other characters may have. His biggest motivating factor is being able to be active in his daughter's life again as his ex-partner set parameters for that to happen (get a job, stay out of trouble, etc.).
That being said, his worst case scenario would be being completely cut off from contact with his daughter. I don't think he could deal with such a situation. But at the end of the first Ant-Man movie, it's pretty clear that everyone understands the importance of the suit, what he's doing, and how it can change things for the better.
3. How do they behave within a group? What role(s) do they take? Does this differ if they know and trust the group, versus finding themselves in a group of strangers? Why?
Scott easily meshes with any group he's put into. His relationships with his crew at X-Con Security Consultants, (Luis, Dave, and Kurt) are warm, supportive, and affectionately sarcastic. When he meets Captain America and Scarlet Witch at a future canon point, he's a little starstruck, but he's very genuine during the encounter.
He's a pretty trusting guy, and though he doesn't make a conscious effort to win people over, they usually find themselves charmed by his charisma.
4. What do they need and want out of relationships, and how do they go about getting it?
I think that, as with many other characters, he craves real connection built on mutual respect. He accepts people for who they are (like Luis with his endless and sometimes ridiculous story telling), and he expects the same from others. He is drawn to people who are authentic and good-hearted.
There's no particular formula for how he goes about creating these relationships. He's simply himself in every interaction, and that's usually good enough!
5. How do they understand the world–what kind of worldview and thought processes do they have? Why?
As stated in the first question, he is somewhere between neutral and chaotic good. He is motivated by a desire to do what's right, even if it puts him in jeopardy.
6. How much do they rely on their minds and intellect, versus other approaches like relying on instinct, intuition, faith and spirituality, or emotions?
He relies on almost everything, sans faith and spirituality. It's shown that he is a brilliant engineer who can easily take apart and understand even the most complex of systems (for example, the Ant-Man suit).
When faced with a difficult situation, his emotions can sometimes get the better of him (e.g., when he showed up at his daughter's birthday party despite not being invited because he didn't want to miss the event), but he is also capable of approaching from a more pragmatic angle.
7. What is something others might find intolerable about them?
He talks a lot and often goes on tangents while talking. Though this is generally very charming and endearing, I could see the behavior getting on certain people's nerves. It's not as bad as how it is for Luis, but it can be up there.
Scott can also sometimes be a little too silly for more serious situations, like when he crashed his daughter's birthday party and joked around about his not being invited with his ex-partner's fiancee.
